Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was created on the 19th of January, 1946, in Pittman Center (Tennessee). She was the daughter of Avie Lee Parton and Robert Lee Parton in Sevierville. Parton is a homewife and Parton is a farmer of tobacco. At the age of 12 she was already appearing on Knoxville TV. At 13 she was already recording for a small label as well as singing at Grand Ole Opry. She moved to Nashville in 1964 to begin her country-singing career after she graduated from high school. Carl Dean, an asphalt-paving entrepreneur, fell for her and they tied the knot on May 30th, 1966. In 1967 her singing caught the interest of Porter Wagoner, who hired her to perform on his show, The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She remained on the show for seven seasons. The duets that they recorded became popular and she was invited to appear with him at the Grand Ole Opry. Her biggest hit "Joshua" that reached number one in 1970, was her biggest single. She decided to go it alone while she recorded duets with him. In 1974, she quit the duo to become a solo artist. Dolly was an extremely well-known musician and singer. Dolly was awarded numerous Country Music Association awards (1968-70 1971-1972, 1975-1976 and 1976). This petite (5'0") beauty was a natural for television in the late 1970s, and she was appearing frequently in TV specials and talk programs before she got her own, Dolly (1976). Dolly got her first Grammy award in 1977 for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Dolly's debut film appearance came in the movie 9-to-5 (1980) in which she received an Oscar nomination for the song's title, as well as Grammy awards 2 and 3. She also received Grammy awards 2, 3, Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance, for the song "Nine to Five." The fame continued to grow with her appearances in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and as well as Rhinestone (1984) in which she sang the track "Tennessee Homesick Blues". She is the founder of Dolly Parton Enterprises, a $100 million media empire and in 1986 she created Dollywood the theme park located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in celebration of her Smoky Mountain upbringing. She was in the Dolly (1987 TV series) as her character. For "Trio" she was awarded the Best Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals Grammy in 1988.
